Challenge
How do you market a "Double Heat" product when the consumer is already physically sweltering?
Traditional food marketing would typically shy away from “hot” products during a heatwave, favouring cooling imagery instead. The challenge was to prevent the product from feeling overwhelming or “too much” for the season and instead make it a culturally relevant must-have.

Goal
The objective was to turn a potential seasonal mismatch into a creative advantage. This required: Leveraging a uniquely British cultural obsession (the weather) to create engagement. Establishing Double Heat Chilli Oil as a "refreshingly" bold addition to summer dining. Boosting brand affinity by showing Yep Kitchen’s personality and creative bravery.

The impact
The campaign achieved significant cultural cut-through by being timely, witty, and unapologetically bold:
Cultural Relevance: By acknowledging the “heatwave discomfort,” the campaign broke through typical seasonal noise and became a conversation starter.
Measurable Growth: Yep Kitchen saw a notable increase in brand sentiment and follower growth, solidifying its reputation as a creatively brave and culturally aware food brand.
Market Success: The “Double Heat” launch proved that by leaning into tension rather than avoiding it, a brand can turn a “hottest challenge” into its coolest opportunity.

The approach
Against Ordinary leaned into the cultural tension of the heatwave with a subversive campaign built on the unspoken British wish: "Please, let it rain."
Juxtaposed Sensory Extremes: We developed a dual-visual strategy. One side, “The Burn-Up,” used warm purples and licking flames to promise intense flavour. The other, “The Cool Relief,” featured vibrant blues and animated rainfall, creating an emotional contrast that invited users to “embrace the fire” to trigger the relief of the rain.
Flipped the Script on Weather: We personified the rain as the only cure for the product’s intensity, turning a national pastime (complaining about the weather) into a playful brand narrative.
Multi-Channel Storytelling: We deployed this “heat vs. relief” narrative across social media, digital ads, and out-of-home (OOH) placements, using the weather as an unlikely co-conspirator.
Deepened the “Authentically Sichuan” Narrative: We ensured the campaign stayed grounded in the brand’s roots, proving that great Sichuan flavor is worth the sweat, no matter the temperature.
